Purchased as a convenient base for family ski trips, this reinvigorated chalet in Thredbo, NSW, is now a special place to visit year round.

WINTER WONDERLAND

With its Snowy Mountains-inspired colour scheme, nostalgic ski-themed art prints and scenic outlook, ‘Stepping Stone’ chalet enjoys a constant connection to its magical alpine location. Owned by Sydney couple Patrick and Yolanda, the cosy home in Thredbo serves as a holiday base where they and their two daughters, aged 19 and 17, enjoy skiing in winter and mountain biking and hiking in summer. “We love the area and had been looking to buy a ski chalet for a few years,” says Patrick. “It was a game of patience waiting for the right one to become available.”

His patience paid off in 2018, when a three-bedroom property came up for sale. “Hidden away in a natural and heavily wooded area, the property is only five metres from a fast and free-flowing river, which makes it very private, but also so relaxing listening to the river,” says Patrick. “The layout was good but it had been regularly rented out and never renovated; it was very tired!”
