Imagine a world where Wednesday Addams has graduated from Nevermore Academy and is serving as legal counsel for the Church of Satan; Lydia Deetz has her own spoken-word café-meets art gallery; and the girls from The Craft have a trendy vegan restaurant. They're still wearing kohlrimmed eyes, but with a grown-up spin. The latter you don't have to simply imagine-look to the fall runways of Valentino, Dior, and Proenza Schouler, where goth girls got a sophisticated spin.

STEP 1: Choose your shape. Valentino's cat-eyes varied from a slight kitten flick to temple-touching wings, while at Dior, every model had a negative-space, smudgy eye.

STEP 2: Any liner texture works-liquid, gel, or a smoky pencil, like Huda Beauty Creamy Kohl Longwear Eye Pencil ($21; hudabeauty.com). "It's all about the execution," says Peter Phillips, creative and image director of Dior Makeup. Once the liner shape is perfected, he says, "fine-tune the finish" by smudging with a soft brush, then outlining the shape with foundation or concealer for maximum impact.
