From an army background, F Naina Ruhail spent her growing years observing and experiencing change - be it in her surroundings, her education, or the cultures she experienced. Growing up, she dreamed of being independent and setting up a venture of her own. Back then, she had no idea which field she wanted to pursue; but, as she moved forward in life, she was fascinated by the beauty industry and would follow it via magazines and TV. "After completing my graduation and then my MBA, I went on to work with a tech firm for a while, but I felt that wasn't something I wanted and hence moved on to pursue my childhood interest - makeup and hairstyling," she says.
She enrolled herself at the London School of Makeup, and it was there that she decided to establish a clean beauty brand. "While I was in the UK, I learned about the clean beauty industry and observed its exponential growth," she explains. "The idea of Vanity Wagon stemmed from these observations and was born in 2017, a year before we started the work. I moved back to Delhi in 2018 and that's when things took off."
Naina also shares how, at the time, there was a huge gap in India as the industry was rapidly growing but the existing retailers were not able to offer the right space to these new homegrown beauty brands. There was a lot of&nbsp;misinformation around the term 'clean beauty' and a lack of trust among consumers, and she wanted to bridge this gap and create a transparent space that would not only educate consumers but also provide the most authentic&nbsp;and trustworthy products while giving these clean beauty brands a platform and bringing them to the mainstream audience.
Since its inception, the brand has grown 10 times and is among the leading clean beauty marketplaces in India.
Naina's future plans include adding 20 plus brands to the portfolio and setting up stores across major cities.
