ON Sept. 6, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner released a joint statement on Instagram formally announcing their split. “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” they wrote. “There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision.”
Despite the unified front, a source close to the couple tells Star Joe was the one who ultimately pulled the plug. The musician, 34 — who shares Willa, 3, and a 14-month-old daughter with the Game of Thrones actress, 27 — filed for divorce on Sept. 5, stating that the marriage was “irretrievably broken.” Rumors swirled that Sophie’s partying ways were an issue, but the source says things simply hadn’t been working for some time. “Joe went back and forth many times about whether to rip off the Band-Aid or stick it out,” reveals the source. “He decided to end things and Sophie reluctantly agreed.”
