LONG LIVE KING CHARLES III
Starting with his highness himself, one of the most significant moments this year was the official crowning of King Charles III, on May 6 at Westminster Abbey, London. Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II that ended her unprecedented 70-year reign, King Charles ascended the throne in September 2022, with his coronation marking the official investiture of his regal powers. His wife, Camilla, the Queen Consort, was also crowned at the ceremony, which was attended by several members of the royal family, representatives of numerous countries, celebrities and other eminent dignitaries.
THE MUSK-META DEBACLE
Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter last year followed a slew of controversies around the platform's handling. But the wranglings didn't end there. Meta's launch of its latest offshoot of Instagram, Threads, ruffled Musk's feathers, for it appeared remarkably similar to Twitter. The fact that it gained over a 100 million users in the first week didn't help matters either, with reports suggesting that Musk is gearing up to sue Meta for having allegedly stolen their trade secrets. Even a literal cage match was on the table! Whether the appeal of Threads will dominate the space, or Twitter will retain its hegemony, only time (and perhaps a few tweets), will tell.
