Be careful of relying solely on a leaf analysis to determine mineral deficiencies in vegetables

More about diagnosing mineral deficiencies in cabbages

I once worked on an estate that produced citrus, among other crops. Annually, on a very specific date, we would collect leaves from the same location for a leaf analysis.

This was compared with the results from past years, but not regarded as an absolute. Taking the ‘wrong’ leaves would give a different result. Rather use a soil analysis as a guide together with what the plant is telling you.

A couple of years ago, a client said he was having to address a potassium and copper deficiency on his cabbages from results from a leaf analysis taken by a professional agronomist.
