Its build receipts add up to more than the average price of property in the UK, so is this the ultimate custom Porsche 964, away from company restomods? Total 911 finds out...

It’s the best 964 I’ve driven,” says Ian Harris. That’s quite a statement given that Ian spends most of his week buying and selling 964s, and has been behind the wheel of a lot of them. But the cost (accumulated by Ian and previous owners) to get to this point, is nigh on £250k – without taking into account the purchase price. So is this money well spent? There’s no doubting it’s special when rolling out of Ian’s garage. In there, it looks black – coincidently the colour this 964 was originally – but out in the sun you see the green. Ian explains: “It’s Emerald green, a Mercedes-Benz colour,” which he’d seen on a G-Wagon. The original plan was to paint it in the same green that Aston Martin used on its oneoff Victor, but when it was at the painters Ian had a change of heart.

It looks sensational, with the visual trick it plays neatly working alongside the other changes he’s made to the car. These are all so well considered that the overall effect is one that, to the uninformed, it looks stock. The lights front and rear have been changed, with clear headlights, and an LED rear set and reflector bar from the US. Under the lights are RS bumpers, which retain the amber front indicators to good effect, while the badge on the bonnet is subtly smoked to complement the depth of the paintwork. It’s such a clean look and a forceful reminder of how nicely proportioned a 964 is – and how a few enhancements can make a dramatic and desirable change to that.
