TECHX AWARDS: THE MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGIES OF CES 2022
PC Magazine|February 2022
Even though the 2022 show was mostly virtual, this year’s crop of Technical Excellence Award winners is the most impressive we’ve seen in a long time.
TECHX AWARDS: THE MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGIES OF CES 2022

Another year, another not-quite-normal CES. Much to everyone’s initial surprise (and eventual resignation), Omicron ramped up its spread with lightning speed. As a result, CES ended up being mostly virtual, even as the show still went on in person, with precious few big-name vendors taking up residence in the vast, near-empty halls and hotels of Las Vegas.

None of this means there was less to see this year. On the contrary, we found plenty of innovation across a wide swath of product categories, something CES has always excelled at throughout its 55-year history. From completely new Intel silicon and modular laptops, to a Peloton competitor built to feel like you’re in the front row of a class, to the slimmest cinematography drone we’ve seen, there was quite a bit to keep us excited for the year to come.

All this leads up to our Technical Excellence Awards, aka TechX. TechX isn’t exactly “The Best of CES” nor quite the same as our Editors’ Choice Award, which we bestow on the best products we’ve tested, reviewed, and rated. Instead, we give TechX awards to products, concepts, and services that are truly new and potentially revolutionary in their given markets, and we saw plenty of them at CES this year. These are the devices, prototypes, and technologies that we think will have the biggest impact on 2022 and beyond. — Jamie Lendino
