How Much Of The Blame Should We Put At David Sullivan's Door?
Blowing Bubbles Monthly|December 2017

Fans have turned on the club’s ownership but is the anger really deserved?

How Much Of The Blame Should We Put At David Sullivan's Door?

It’s very hard to pinpoint the exact moment it all went wrong for us.

Perhaps it was the decision to dream big and decide Sam Allardyce was not the right man to take us forward?

How about the day we moved into the London Stadium? Or perhaps even dared to even bid for the damned thing in the first place?

Some would point to the departure of Dimitri Payet, others the decision not to sack Slaven Bilic at the end of last season.

Whatever moment in time you think our current woes can be attributed to, there seems to be one common denominator throughout – the owners, David Gold and David Sullivan.

That should come as no surprise to anyone - they are the owners of the football club after all – but the issue is the way all of the above have been dealt with that ultimately contributes to where we are today.

The appointment of David Moyes was understandably met with dismay and anger amongst the majority of our fans and that is unsurprising given his managerial record since leaving Everton. We’ve tasked a man ager, who was relegated from the Premier League last season, with ensuring we’re not relegated come May next year.

After Avram Grant, you wonder whether Gold and Sullivan are at all able to learn from their mistakes.

It remains to be seen whether Moyes is the shrewd and successful appointment we’re all hoping it will prove to be, but the club’s owners will have a hell of a lot to answer for should we wind up playing in the Championship next season.
