YOUR DAILY COMMUTE
Rejoice, those of you who depend on public transport for your daily commute! The government’s introduction of an unlimited travel pass for 30 days at RM50 (only for Rapid KL buses and MRT feeder buses, excluding BRT) and RM100 (valid for MRT, LRT, Monorail, BRT, Rapid KL buses, and MRT feeder buses) provides some welcomed savings. Especially since fares for the KTM, Monorail and LRT trains were increased in 2015. “The monthly MyRapid smart card offers savings too, but it doesn’t cover the cost of hopping onto trains operated by other transport providers. For example, I took the Rapid KL and MRT to KL Sentral from my place, costing me RM8.40 for a return trip – that’s approximately RM160 per month. With the RM100 30day unlimited pass, I’d save RM60 a month. That can buy two 10kg bags of rice, or be put into savings for travel, retirement or you children’s education,” says Noreen.
