More Official EV Uptake Starting with the most significant news, 46th president of the United States, Joe Biden, signed an executive order called Buy American to replace the entire fleet of gasoline-powered vehicles in the US with electric ones.
To put it into perspective, the US Govt currently has 645,000 conventional vehicles in its fleet. Replacing more than half a million Internal Combustion Engine vehicles with EVs will cost a lot of money, and can only be done over a long period.
The Buy American executive order will ensure that every EV purchased by the US Govt is made in the country. Brands like Tesla, Nissan and General Motors already assemble their cars in the country. Ford's latest EV, the Mustang Mach-E is currently made in the south of the US in Mexico, but the manufacturer plans to bring more domestic factories.
The product offering in the EV space is relatively slim in the US. As a result, every major manufacturer will have either an EV, a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) in its portfolio very soon. New startup brands like LUCID Air, Lordstown Motors and Rivian now also have more incentive to speed up their manufacturing process.
