While thriving in semi-shade they flower more productively in full sun, but help keep soil moist in summer by mulching. Being surface-rooting, spread out rather than bury roots when planting.Leave them to achieve their ultimate size and spread, around 4m (13ft) over 10 or more years, or keep compact by pruning after flowering. Cut back flowering shoots to two buds, stimulating more sideshoots to form, which will flower the following winter.
