Masungi Georeserve

Every now and then, a little taste of nature is essential to keep us sane. With the stress our daily lives give us in the city, we often find ourselves looking for an escape to breathe out. Some people would crave for the sands of the beach, while nature enthusiasts would go mountain trekking. If you’re part of the latter, the province of Rizal has a stunning rock garden behind its lush rainforests perfect for you.

The Masungi Georeserve is a conservation area that has been around since 1996. Masungi is derived from the word “masungki” which means spiked, as resembled by its limestone landscape and karst terrain.

The team behind the georeserve has faced lots of encounters with conservation issues since obtaining the property. In the middle of the conservation area were informal settlers, land-grabbers, illegal loggers and quarriers. Although some of these illegal activities persist today, the place is now being taken more care of after the conservation and ecomanagement plan for the place transpired in 2013.
