Ariana DeBose all smiles as we sit down with a coffee, in a photo studio bustling with people, on one of London's first warm weekends of the year. And who can blame her? After all, she recently won her first Oscar, for the best-supporting actress, for her role in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story. "This type of success is something you dream about," she says, "but also the visibility it's brought has given me an opportunity to speak up for all the things I believe in, as well as the communities I'm a part of." There's a frisson of excitement in the air-and rightly so. Today, DeBose is one of 12 change-makers in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community who are coming together to be celebrated on the cover of British Vogue. Nearby, Cara Delevingne is chatting away like every cool girl you've ever met in a club toilet, wolfing down scrambled eggs with decidedly punk energy. It may not be her first time at the rodeo, but it could be the most meaningful. "I arrived today with a very different sense of elatedness," she tells me, between mouthfuls. "It's so different and it's so nice."
