YOUR RESOLUTION: GROW YOUR HAIR SUPER LONG
Hard truth: When it comes to getting Rapunzel-level locks, patience is key. But you can speed things along by helping your hair live its best (long) life. The secret? Get a trim every two to three months. We know, it sounds counterintuitive, but it really isn’t, trust. “When hair splits at the ends, it actually won't appear longer,” says Glamsquad artistic director Giovanni Vaccaro. By trimming more often, you’ll avoid the nasty breakage at the bottom of your hair that slows your journey to longer length.
YOUR RESOLUTION: SMOOTH STRANDS
The surprising number one rule for avoiding frizz? Keep your hands off your hair. “Don’t overly fuss,” shares Marilisa Sears, artistic director for MAV Beauty Brands. “The more you touch, the more you open the cuticle and create frizz.” How, you ask? Your hair’s cuticle is made up of overlapping layers that look best when lying down flat (picture what happens when you pet your cat’s fur in the opposite direction). When the cuticle is lifted, your hair tangles more easily, feels rough and looks less shiny. So, after you’ve styled, leave it be. Another silky-strand secret? Keep hair hydrated with ingredients like marula oil and coconut water (try conditioning with Acure Simply Smoothing Coconut & Marula Conditioner, $13, target.com).
