A Force Of Nature
Female Malaysia|February 2020
Beyond the supermodel façade and nickname ‘the body’, which she earned early on in her career, brazilian beauty Gisele Bündchen is a simple jeans-and-t-shirt kind of girl. She opens up about her love for nature, channelling positive energy into the world and being the new face of a luxury beauty brand’s skincare line. Sarah Hani Jamil reports from Shanghai.

A Force Of Nature

You’d think that my first encounter with the supermodel would be a glamorous one. But no. There I was helping a fellow journalist take an OOTD shot at the lobby of The PuLi Hotel and Spa in Shanghai, bending down at an unflattering angle to take the perfect shot when a group of people politely stopped walking to allow me to take the photo. As soon as I snapped it, I looked up and into the eyes of the one and only Gisele Bündchen! As she and her team waited, I proceeded to apologise before letting them pass through.

The next time I saw Gisele, she was on stage at the Dior Skincare Summit looking like a fresh-faced goddess, where she was announced as the new ambassador of the revamped Capture Totale Line. Dressed in a white shirt, moss green blazer and flared blue jeans complemented by sun-kissed wavy hair, what’s striking about Gisele, apart from her good looks, is her effervescent personality. To quote a saying out of her recently published memoir, Lessons – My Path to a Meaningful Life, “I’ve had many teachers in my life but I’ve discovered that nature is the most powerful teacher and healer.” It is her love for being one with nature that is precisely why the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Environment Programme was chosen by Dior to front the collection.
