Spirit Is Indestructible

dehino ‘smin yatha dehe kaumaram yauvanam jara (2.13)

In life, there are phases - childhood, youth, adulthood, and old age. In the same way after death, we enter another body and take birth again. We all play our roles on this stage called the ‘world.’ We all have our roles to play, so play your role well. Wake up! Don’t get caught up in your emotional turbulence. Playing your role well gives you a vision of what the Self is, of who we are. Some people are astonished just talking about the Being, about the Self. Some listen with wonder and even after hearing so much about it, do not know what it is!

ascarya-vat pasyati kascid enam (2.29)

When you go deep in meditation you realize, “Oh, this is what I am! “Wow! Who am I? What is this universe all about? What is the spirit? What is life? What is the soul?” The soul can never be cut into pieces, can never be burnt, and can never be buried. It can never be made wet. Nothing happens to the Soul. Similarly, nothing happens to space, you can’t wet space. Space is unbreakable, so is our soul. Our spirit is not a substance, it is a vast expanse. Such is your nature too, your true spirit. It can never be destroyed. No arrows can pierce your spirit. Your hand can be amputated but your mind cannot be amputated, your spirit cannot be amputated. Spirit is indestructible. This knowledge brought a huge sigh of relief to Arjuna.
