Rip It Up And Start Again

Once the preserve of porn stars and professional athletes, going hair free has well and truly entered the mainstream

Somewhere between Bronson and Craig – though it looks like Dalton dabbled – James Bond started getting his chest waxed. So too did Batman, scores of professional footballers and every underwear model you can think of.

It’s strange that as beards seem to blossom on every chin, the chest has taken a beating. Not that today’s men are expected to be hairless, but it’s certainly something more men are considering.

“Men’s waxing used to be a really specialist service,” explains Jack Dunn, one of London’s male waxing masters. “It’s really taken off during the last few years and we’re seeing people from all walks of life asking for it.”

Something of a pioneer in hair removal, Dunn has been waxing men for more than 20 years. A brand ambassador for Perron Rigo – an elite French brand of wax and other beauty products – Dunn’s reputation helped him launch the Jack Dunn Waxing School in London. “We have people coming from all over the world to learn how to wax men properly,” he says. And that’s probably the most important thing for anyone considering their first wax– make sure your therapist knows what they’re doing.
