Marchionne was a force to reckon with in the auto world. He’s credited with saving Chrysler and turning Fiat around. Sadly, he’s no longer with us, but his legacy will live on.
Sergio Marchionne, the former head of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), has passed away at 66. He had been admitted in hospital in Zurich for over three weeks, and suffered complications from a recent shoulder surgery. Mike Manley, who was heading FCA’s operations in the US, takes over as CEO of the company. Marchionne was due to retire in 2019.
In 2004, while in his 20s, John Elkan, the Agnelli family heir – Giovanni Agnelli founded Fiat in 1899 – appointed Marchionne at the helm of the Italian automaker in order to save the struggling company.
