Experts and celebrities back CCW’s bid to prompt Government rethink

MoT Petition Gathers Pace

As CCW went to press, 1279 people have signed a petition asking the Government to reassess the classic vehicle MoT exemption furore.

The petition, started by CCW, follows The Department for Transport (DfT)’s announcement that it intends to exempt most vehicles that are more than 40 years old from annual roadworthiness tests from May 2018. The petition also requests that all vehicles be given independent annual safety inspections.

The DfT’s own figures indicate that just six percent of the pre-1960 vehicles that are already exempt are voluntarily tested. These plans will see an additional 293,000 vehicles exempted from the MoT, in addition to the 197,000 vehicles that currently meet the required criteria.
