Does Your Pet Enjoy The Protein It Gets?

WHY PROTEIN

Being the first domesticated animal, ancestors of our furry tails are believed to become docile as the Late Pleistocene hunters-gatherers in Eurasia shared lean meat protein with them. Dogs evolved in terms of their dentition and intestinal tract so as to adapt to an omnivorous diet. They meet the nutritional needs from a combination of plant and animal foods. In a balanced dog diet, the quality and digestibility of protein and fat is more important than its source. An adequate supply of high-value protein should always be taken into account when feeding dogs.

Dogs can be fed with a balanced completely homemade diets or commercial dog food alone or in a combination in order meet your dog's nutritional demands recommended by your vet. A balanced diet of dogs, require a minimum of 18% protein as dry matter (AAFCO guidelines) or ~20g protein/1,000 kcal of metabolizable energy required (NRC guidelines). As a rule of thumb, dogs require 2 grams of high-quality animal protein per kilogram of body weight per day. The current research had established that there are no added benefits with excess protein than the requirement and sometimes it can increase the risk of gout.
