It May Be Time to Stop Doubting the Smartwatch.

Swiss to Smarts

In this day and age of technology when trends change faster than seasons, owning something timeless gives a sense of exclusivity. In such cases, owning an elegant timepiece becomes a vanity. Swiss watches play on this yearning of exclusivity and “sophistication only” club to keep people longing for mechanical time pieces even when there are tech moguls launching what is now the current rage: the smartwatch. However, not going to lie, having some trendy tech gadget on ourselves does make us feel like we belong to the “cool club”.

Would you believe that nearly 50 years after Captain Kirk used his wristwatch communicator on Star Trek, REAL Smartwatches surfaced in the world a couple years ago and they have been proving, time and again, that they are here to stay? Although it seemed that the growing popularity of smartwatches would not even remotely affect the long-standing popularity of mechanical Swiss watches, Apple’s iWatch triggered a whole new phenomenon, proving the previous notions totally wrong. Part of smartwatches’ success is that they entered an industry dominated by style and managed to carve out their own stylistic niche. Their intention behind this digitization is for us to start using technology optimally instead of redundantly staring at our smartphones all day.
