Sonam Kapoor stormed up the Bollywood ranks this year with an incredible performance in Neerja. She talks to Sandipan Dalal about how her life has changed since.
Sonam Kapoor is in the middle of finalising details on an upcoming trip to London, her first holiday of the year, and she’s understandably excited. The 31-year-old actor spent the first couple of months of 2016 working round the clock to promote her film Neerja, which went on to become one of the highest-grossing Hindi films with a female lead (earning nearly ₹80 crore worldwide), and in May, she launched her own app. Then, she gave us an eyeful of utterly original red carpet styles at the 69th Cannes Film Festival and returned home to work with two NGOs that address the cause of malnourishment in children. London is going to be all about unwinding. “All I want to do on my holiday is sleep, eat and shop,” says the actor who inked a deal in August with the California- based United Talent Agency that represents Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Alicia Vikander. We sat down with Kapoor to hear all about the whirlwind year, her love for jewelled watches, and how the size of a ring doesn’t matter as long as her man loves her. Edited excerpts from the interview:
You bagged the first award of the season for Neerja at the Indian Film Festival Melbourne, signed up with a prestigious agency, and became a social media powerhouse—this has been an eventful year for Sonam Kapoor!
