Vaani Kapoor is about to give our film industry a booster shot in December, and we’ve started lining up already
New! A word more loaded with anticipation than anticipation itself. A new actor? #too much to handle. When we shot our cover in Paris, everything Vaani Kapoor touched was Page 3 gold. Of the variety of newbie debuts that are built up to such a frenzy that news of their preferred brand of toothpaste can make headlines. With an exclamation point.
Which explains why an interview with Ms Kapoor felt as if we were tracking someone off a Most Wanted list. Besides the usual lot of emails, phone calls, midnight exchanges of Whatsapp messages (not nearly as saucy as it sounds), there was a heightened amount of concern that we don’t reveal much about her before Befikre releases. Her wait in the curtains needed to be as dark and anticipatory as possible. Which explained the carefully released social media posts, images and other titillating details.
So how do we do the interview – revealing the bare minimum, but making it really count? We threw a Proust questionnaire at her – the ultimate parlour game bound to create awkward tension at dinner parties – in the hope of snaring a modicum of personal detail from Kapoor, and we latched on to her costar, Ranveer Singh. We invited him to give us an insider’s low down, his first impressions of this new person about to dominate our screens, come December.
Did we dissect her, finally? We leave you to decide.
