The 7th CFO India Conclave brought together the finest finance professionals on one platform.

Without the element of uncertainty, the bringing off of even, the greatest business triumph would be dull, routine, and eminently unsatisfying,” American oil tycoon J Paul Getty once said. Looking at global turbulence today, businesses and CFOs are dealing with a great degree of unknown.

In its 7th year, centered around the theme, The CFO in a (B)orderless World, the CFO India Leadership Conclave, was held in Visakhapatnam on the first weekend in August 2016, focused on three broad trends – global, digital and personal.

With around 20 sessions, nearly 20 speakers and over 60 CFO participants, the business extravaganza, spread over three days, was a meeting of diverse opinions and stimulating conversations, connections and change. Anuradha Das Mathur, Editor, CFO

India, Co-founder & Director, 9.9 Media setting the tone for the Conclave said, “As we look at the impact of global chaotic events today, they are very different from 18, 24, 36 months ago. We were, in general, grappling with the slowdown, but now there are very big chunky events with uncertain outcomes that we are staring at, like Brexit, the US elections, the China slowdown and its impact. Nobody has answers to what’s going on around us.”

The first off-the-block was the session on The CFO in a (B)orderless World: Making sense of chaotic global events, by Mihir Swarup Sharma, Senior Fellow, Observer Research. Mihir talked about the top instabilities in the global economy, namely Brexit, the US struggle to sustain growth, the China slowdown and the emerging economies confronting low global demand. Explaining the implications of these four pressure points in the world economy, he opined that globalization is no longer the unstoppable force that the world once assumed it to be. With the rising unknowable risks, he urged businesses to go with caution and diversify.
