In the next decade, more than a third of jobs won’t need a human to do them. Give the machines a run for their money by upskilling – fast
A night out in 2026: you buy a dress from a rail of holograms, a drone delivers it, a driverless car picks you up at 2am and then, hungover, you project Netflix just by talking to it. The downside? In 10 years, the tech that boosts your social life could crush your career, with roles paying less than £30,000 nearly five times more likely to go. Which leaves you...? Not screwed exactly, but ready to swot up on the skills that will future-proof your day job, perhaps.
Carry on coding
Coding is currently the most talked about skill to learn – with even Karlie Kloss getting involved (the supermodel has set up workshops to encourage more women into tech careers). But will it still be worth it in 10 years’ time? In short, yes: 750,000 digital workers are needed by 2017, and salaries in software development begin at £35,000. But even if you’re not planning on developing the new Snapchat any time soon, the skills still carry through. Most headhunting is increasingly done online, using social recruiting software, which trawls the web looking for specific keywords (and they hone in on coding skills).
