The major Island event we cover this week is Talk of the Town held at the Opera House. The lead sentence in the story by Will Robinson sums it up. “Hardly any of the 246 seats in the Stonington Opera House were empty as people from all over the Island and Peninsula discussed climate change with a panel of six local experts at the first ‘talk of the town’ community conversation on December 6.“ Stonington select board member Travis Fifield added his overview, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure investment. He encouraged the gathered locals to continue to support the towns as they adapt. “A small investment now can save millions down the road,” he said. Both town governments are dealing with the complications and costs of waste disposal. Our sports columnist Jack Scott reports on the start of the Island high school basketball season. Also, don't forget to view Coming Events for holiday festivities you might like to attend.
