Diz-se que todas as boas ideias começam por ser loucas até serem inventadas. E o mundo está cheio de bons exemplos de loucos e de loucuras que mudaram as nossas vidas para melhor. Esta hashtag – #ExcelênciaLusófona – vai começar a correr nas nossas redes sociais e nas nossas mentes até que se torne uma mentalidade sem cor. Ou, melhor, com muitas cores.  
SOBRE ESTA EDIÇÃO: Desafiámos Guilherme Mampuya para dar um toque de arte na nossa capa. E assim obtivemos um 22 com um mix de elementos gráficos e africanos. O artista angolano a revelar-se e a Forbes África Lusófona a continuar a sua aposta no talento pelas seis geografias que abraçamos.

Quando há quase três anos a ideia de juntar seis lusofonias num só espaço ganhou forma, houve sempre uma nuvem a inquietar-me: porque é que nunca ninguém o fez antes? Angola, Cabo Verde, Moçambique, Guiné Bissau, Guiné Equatorial e São Tomé e Príncipe, para além de uma língua comum, são um potencial económico de mais de 70 milhões de consumidores. Podemos continuar a falar de números, até porque para 2024 as previsões são animadoras, um crescimento na ordem dos  3,9% para a África Subsariana, segundo o Banco Mundial.
Mas o grande potencial, para quem não o vê, está na massa criativa de uma geração que concretiza em contexto de adversidade. É essa preparação, esse estágio humano de resiliência, desde o minuto em que nascemos sob o karma de um continente subdesenvolvido, que o resto do mundo não tem. E percepciona, mal, que o facto de haver grandes níveis de pobreza, nos impede de pensar, criar e, sobretudo, fazer. 
Lutamos contra esse estigma. Esse e tantos outros, como o facto de generalizarem no seu pensamento (e na sua própria ignorância) de que África é um país, exótico, com elefantes e colares coloridos, danças tribais e safaris. Na obra ‘Africa is not a country’ que recomendo a uns e outros, o nigeriano Dipo Faloyin descontrói, mas as “narrativas” (termo que virou moda e que não corroboro) são isso mesmo, narrativas. Não há outra forma de fazer, senão fazendo.  E  é esse caminho que temos percorrido, percebendo, aqui e acolá, o quão difícil  é, manter de pé um projecto como a Forbes, com exigências internacionais e com o mesmo nível de qualidade, não aceitamos fazer por menos. 

As previsões já rondam por aí. Com as nuances próprias de quem faz as análises. O outlook do FMI aponta um crescimento de PIB de 3,3% para Angola, 5% para Moçambique e Guiné-Bissau e 4,5% para Cabo Verde.
Uma previsão mais modesta para São Tomé e Príncipe, 2,4%, e a Guiné Equatorial seguirá em recessão com -5,5% em 2024. Globalmente para a África Subsariana, a Fitch prevê um crescimento de 4%, com a inflação na região a abrandar para 4,9%, e a dívida pública a manter-se nos 67%.
O que levamos daqui, deste 2023, para o próximo ano? Uma mão-cheia de tudo. Com riscos associados inerentes ao facto de sermos economias frágeis e muito dependentes da conjuntura mundial. África, que ainda sofre os efeitos da covid-19, sofre também com os conflitos geopolíticos e os choques climáticos, situações que vão persistir no ano que agora começa e que a região tem de encontrar respostas à medida.
Sobre os conflitos, pouco há a fazer. Mas sobre o clima, a COP 28 veio, uma vez mais, chamar a atenção para o facto de o continente ser o que mais sofre, o que menos contribui para o mal e o que recebe menos financiamento neste domínio. Está tudo virado do avesso, e isso tem que ver com o mindset, o modo como se olha para as economias africanas, que não devem ser avaliadas com base no seu PIB, mas pela sua riqueza natural.

Queremos descolar em first class. Mas esquecemo-nos de pagar o bilhete.
Queremos a liberalização das tarifas alfandegárias e fazer do continente a maior zona de livre comércio de bens e serviços do mundo. Grandes expectativas. Aumentar 50% nas trocas comerciais do continente, uma percentagem que reduz para os 15% caso não haja um acompanhamento de melhoria de doing business em África. Ao todo, 1300 milhões de pessoas num bloco económico avaliado como a maior área de comércio livre desde sempre. Mais. O Banco Mundial estima que este levantamento de fronteiras em África poderá retirar dezenas de milhões de pessoas da pobreza até 2035.
Estamos à espera do quê?
Queremos turistas. Sector estratégico para criar awareness no continente, atrair divisas e toda uma indústria à volta do sector.
Há seis países africanos que se destacam pelo nível de acessibilidade aos dados do turismo em África: Cabo Verde, África do Sul, Marrocos, Tunísia, Tanzânia e Maurícia, segundo a plataforma With Africa da Nova SBE. Mas depois falta-nos todo o resto do roteiro para que levem daqui uma boa imagem, para que divulguem e para que voltem. Falo principalmente dos nossos lusófonos, que têm aqui uma lança em África desperdiçada.
Queremos um mercado comum e, quiçá, uma união económica e
monetária em 2030, mas como vamos chegar lá se continuamos a andar a duas velocidades: devagar e devagarinho?

Mais uma cimeira da CPLP. Desta vez para passar a pasta a São Tomé
e Príncipe, que tem a responsabilidade, que já vai sendo ingrata,
de unir esforços dos países de língua oficial portuguesa em torno
de um bem comum. Neste biénio serão dois os focos: juventude e
sustentabilidade. Falemos sobre a primeira, porque é a aposta mais
natural. O bem maior do continente africano, dizem os estudos e
os peritos, são os recursos naturais, mas eu digo: são os recursos
humanos. Sem essa camada jovem, que ainda está à deriva, nada se
fará. Em 2050, África terá o mesmo número de pessoas que a Índia e
a China têm actualmente juntas – mais de 2 mil milhões –, e mais de
metade da população terá menos de 25 anos. Mas será capaz de garantir um futuro a estes jovens? Sozinha, obviamente, não. E não estou a passar um atestado de incompetência a África nem aos africanos, estou a analisar a carga de um passado de escravatura, colonização e exploração de recursos naturais e humanos, que tem naturalmente consequências no modus operandis do presente. Neste step up, os continentes mais ricos terão de dar o seu contributo. Não é um pedido.
É uma responsabilidade. É isso ou terem um futuro comprometido, porque, em bom português, as suas gentes estão envelhecidas. Para explorarem os recursos naturais, África tem sido uma boa parceira. Para dar a mão aos seus jovens, já nem tanto. Continuamos a ser numerus clausus, até ser inevitável que olhem para nós, e isso será quando olharem à volta e sentirem que precisam de mentes frescas e braços jovens para dar gás às suas economias.
Educação, emprego, fome, pobreza, saúde, meio ambiente, delinquência e consumo de drogas, actividades de lazer, igualdade de género e participação na tomada de decisões, eis as dez prioridades manifestadas na Carta Africana da Juventude. Pelos próprios. Porque estes jovens não são só um activo. São a nossa/vossa esperança.

África inaugura agora muitas primeiras vezes. Os Calema, o primeiro grupo PALOP a atingir um recorde no YouTube. Paulina Chiziane, a primeira africana a ganhar o Prémio Camões, Lesley Lokko, a primeira curadora afro da Bienal de Veneza. Podemos pensar que já vamos tarde – copo meio vazio – ou podemos pensar que chegou a nossa vez – copo meio cheio. Deste lado, e pela primeira vez, coincidimos o título da capa com o do editorial. Não foi coincidência. É assumido.

V ou falar sobre uma carta. Data de 2021. E diz assim: “Estamos num momento de tremenda dor económica. Uma empresa que não saiba beneficiar de todo o espectro do talento humano é mais fraca por isso e tem menos hipótese de contratar os melhores talentos, estará em piores condições para atender às necessidades dos seus clientes e comunidades onde opera, e também com menor possibilidade de conseguir um desempenho superior no mercado.”
Foi há dois anos, mas poderia ter sido ontem. Relatórios de sustentabilidade versus relatórios sobre a estratégia de talentos, de forma a “melhorar a diversidade, a equidade e a inclusão”, são as novas exigências da BlackRock numa carta aberta do seu CEO para os seus homólogos.
Larry Fink, o autor das cartas abertas a cada início de ano, e fundador da BlackRock que gere uma carteira de mais de 8,7 mil milhões de euros, lançou o ultimato daquilo que deve ser o nosso compromisso com a comunidade.
O investimento de impacto. O ISG. A responsabilidade social. Disse-o. Escreveu e pôs em prática. Quem não estiver comprometido não terá a BlackRock como parceiro. E assim começou a incomodar e a fazer a diferença, fazendo, ou não fosse uma empresa que gere hoje 35 mil milhões de dólares.
É um número tão sonante (ou chocante) quanto o facto de 34% das famílias africanas viverem abaixo da linha de pobreza, ou seja, com 1,90 dólares por dia. E 40% da riqueza total pertence a cerca de 0,1% da população do continente, quando o potencial de exportação de África chega a 21,9 mil milhões, diz a ONU. Pergunto: Estamos a olhar para onde? A nossa primeira responsabilidade deve ser para com os nossos.

Belasko e Stayer editaram aquela que considero ser uma das melhores
obras sobre liderança. Foi-me recomendada por um gestor, Nuno Rodrigues, por sinal meu irmão, numa das nossas inúmeras tertúlias sobre o que faz um bom chefe. E fui ler O Voo do Búfalo, que explica, metaforicamente, a diferença entre um líder búfalo e um líder ganso com base na análise empírica de como actuam estes animais no seu ecossistema. Ora, os búfalos são seguidores absolutamente fiéis. Fazem tudo, ipsis verbis, o que o líder diz, e não se desviam desta rota, acreditando que estão a ser leais e não submissos. Dois handicaps: não sabem lidar com imprevistos e não podem dar asas à sua imaginação.
Já os gansos têm uma atitude diferente. Basta apreciar o seu voo.
Formam um V, e a ciência já descobriu porquê: “sabe-se que quando cada ave bate as asas, move o ar para cima, ajudando a sustentar a ave imediatamente atrás. Ao voar em forma de V, o bando beneficia de, pelo menos, 71% a mais de força de voo do que uma ave a voar sozinha”, explicam os autores na obra.
Ou seja, todos os gansos acabam por ser responsáveis por si mesmos à
medida que se deslocam, mudam de papel de acordo com as necessidades, alternam a liderança e ajustam-se a novas tarefas com uma dinâmica inata.

Ouço, leio e até já escrevi que capitalizar a língua no espaço lusófono é a nossa grande mais-valia. A frase, que já se tornou uma assumida verdade de La Palice, não passa disso mesmo. Uma frase feita. Olho à volta e caminho por entre os seis PALOP (plus Brasil, Timor, Macau e Goa) para desconstruir este conceito e perceber porque não andamos para a frente.
Falando a mesma língua e sem rodeios, falta-nos o sentido de COMUNIDADE.
Não conseguimos caminhar juntos, pensar estrategicamente em conjunto, satisfazer as nossas necessidades em prol de um bem comum, ir à luta numa frente única. Quase que diria: falta-nos um business plan. E isso torna-nos individualmente mais frágeis, mais ainda numa era digital que promove o isolamento, a continuarmos, assim, de braços cruzados na nossa zona de conforto.
A verdade é que, se dantes era difícil , agora tornou-se ‘o’ verdadeiro desafio.
Como criar uma comunidade e transformá-la numa vantagem competitiva?
David Spinks, o fundador da rede internacional CMX e autor da obra The Business of Belonging , fala sobre esta jornada épica. Primeiro a criação do sentimento de pertença, depois o envolvimento e de seguida o crescimento. Mas nada disto funciona se, como diriam Aristóteles e Platão já naquele tempo, não sentirmos necessidade de aqui estar, uns com os outros, a beneficiar de uma vida melhor.

Há um ano, precisamente um ano, sabíamos o que queríamos. Partilhar a África que cada um tem dentro de nós para que UNIDOS construíssemos não um, mas ‘o’ projecto lusófono e, sabendo isso, sabíamos também todos os obstáculos que teríamos de superar, todos os caminhos que tinham de ser contornados, todas as batalhas que tinham de ser enfrentadas. Isto é África, como se diz no nosso continente, e para percebê-lo é preciso ter o seu ADN.

NESTA EDIÇÃO: O nosso tema de capa está presente em três seções ao longo da revista, antecipando o 31 de Julho, Dia da Mulher Africana, para que com esta pequena rebeldia se fale do tema fora do calendário institucional.

Respeito pelos mais velhos. É o que começo por dizer. Somos o berço da Humanidade. Neste mundo em que vivemos, um contra o outro, todos numa corrida desenfreada em busca de culpas e culpados, a apontar dedos e a agir violentamente, África tem de dizer basta!
Pôr de lado o estigma do coitadinho e cortar as amarras de uma dependência que se construiu ao longo da História e que nos colocou numa posição fragilizada, de pobreza extrema e a ‘mendigar’ sobras de vacinas contra um vírus que nasceu do outro lado do globo e que agora chega aqui
para fechar portas, ainda mais, ao nosso continente.
Lamento informar que estamos sozinhos. É nestes momentos que sentimos o desamparo total de uma Europa desorientada, de uma América egocêntrica e de uma Ásia bipolar.
