Why is Stemcor Selling its Indian Assets?:

Stemcor is big & experienced but bruised. According to senior industry men, the London headquartered, one of the largest international traders in the world is planning a financial restructuring and with limited manufacturing experience, Indian assets seem like a good off-loading option. However, what factors may affect the actual execution of the deal? How has BRPL performed since its start? How have the mines faired in the past? Many such questions pop up when the plot is looked into.
Most of the Indian steel biggies are keen on acquiring Stemcor’s Indian assets mainly for the mining assets of the company. But, are these mines producing enough to feed the Pellet plant alone?
Secondly, BIS on MS Ingot/Billet is slated to be implemented on October 1 this year. AIIFA continues to stand opposed on such quality standards with a demand to implement BIS on the raw material first.
