This Anniversary issue we celebrate stars of all shapes and sizes for the kind of work they do, that makes our job worth doing!

Every girl out there has heard all of this and more. We may have stepped out of the house and earned rightful seats at schools, colleges and offices, but we still have sisters whose voices are smothered. 

Women’s Day, like every such ‘day’ is to celebrate a cause and serves as reminder to those who have lost sight of the bigger picture. Lost in trolling and mocking others, people forget the things that matter. They need to be thrust into reality and March 8 is a red flag in our calendar to remind privileged women that there are still women shackled by oppression. It is a day to help us see how far we have come in the ‘women’s empowerment’ department and to also remind us how far we still must travel. Happy Women’s Day!

Parvathy Menon makes the perfect cover girl, because her journey in cinema is inspiring. She has been up there afloat on cloud nine and she has fallen on her face. She just jumps right up and starts climbing again. We also have special interviews with Lakshmi Ramakrishnan, Kiruthiga  Udhayanidhi, Brindha Master, Poorna and Aarathy Arun Vijay to give you a multidimensional view  on just what it feels like to be a woman in cinema. It’s all about Love this month. Valentine’s Day is upon us and for the next couple of weeks at every turn we are
going to be seeing love-struck red hearts with Cupid’s arrow running through their mushy center. However, this
seemingly harmless celebration of love and romance has met with objection from religious fanatics and ‘disciplined’
cultural groups who look at Valentine’s Day festivities like it was an onset of a fatal epidemic. One can only hope that
they have removed their monochrome glasses and will let the spirit of the season open up their hearts and minds. Let
this Valentine’s Day be a day to celebrate love of all kinds, to foster peace and to bridge all our differences.
In keeping with the flavour of the month, our usual spread of features is infused with romance. If you were wondering

As we celebrate the birth of the New Year, let’s take a vow to do our bit towards achieving WORLD PEACE  - no foul-mouthing people on social media. Let’s take our nose out of our smart devices and pay closer attention to the people around us. Let’s foster hope and optimism, generosity and love. Let’s give freely, for there is everything to gain and nothing to lose. Happy New Year to ya’ll!

December always arrives in pensive tones. A year has sped by once more. A ton of memories to look back at and smile. A bunch that brings a tear. And a few we wish to push into oblivion. Whatever be the mood-downers, there’s always a sense of hope when January 1st arrives. A new year. A new start. And so we thought lets end the year on a high-five. 

South Indian cinema is slowly making way for its lead ladies to rise above the monotony of being arm-candy to macho heroes. Today we have ladies who set aside their personal lives and brave the male dominated movie biz to single-handedly carry a movie to success. Nayantara in Aramm has made her lady peers swell in pride. But she’s not the only one doing female-kind proud. Our cover feature this month salutes the actresses who have proven that you don’t need to be a man to be a HERO!
Also, don’t miss out on our flashback feature that captures important showbiz events in 2017. We cornered hotty Raai Laxmi with a rapid fire and she shot back her responses even faster! Rain has once more wreaked havoc on Chennai and its surrounding areas. It seems like we spend one part of the year thirsty and the other part drowning! Our heart goes out to those who have suffered at the hands of Nature’s wrath. And we salute everyone who ventured out in knee-deep water to lend a helping hand. We are pulled between wishing the rains away so we can get back to our lives; and wanting more because otherwise, the next summer promises to be another staggering drought year! Ah, if only we were better citizens with better governance, then pelting rains would be just a wet day, not a disaster. 

Moving on to movie matters... Diwali went by in a gust of smoke. And when the smog cleared, we did not just hear the resounding applause for Mersal from die-hard Vijay fans. The appreciation and fanfare was interspersed with smothering politics and threats to freedom of expression. Read on and find out the whole story in a special report by Galatta Cinema. Also in this issue is a special tribute to director Vettrimaaran who celebrates his 10th year in cinema. Congrats and best wishes to him. But our biggest and best kept secret is now out: Vimala Raman! We had a fabulous day in the sun with her. She’s fun, she’s sassy and she’ll catch you off guard with her sense of humour. In the pictures and the interview we have tried to capture all of this. Shankar’s extravagance was the talk of the town again. The 2.0 audio launch in Dubai was a grand affair and we bring you EXCLUSIVE pictures of the event. Then there’s the straight-from-the-heart chat with actor Sarathkumar that is fun as it is insightful. We also managed to squeeze in a quicky with Namitha for our Twenty Questions and as always she was brutally honest!
