In this issue

Things are hopping over here at International Metalworking News- Middle East & Africa. We are kicking off the New Year with an Outlook Report that features perceptions emphasising the standpoints of different industry experts. It exemplifies the links across issues and explores some of the questions our experts are grappling with, and finally, it looks ahead to the initial concerns and technologies that will shape the metalworking industry.
The Middle East Focus section addresses MENA’s oil and gas industry challenge of an ageing, and soon-to-retire workforce. Kenneth McKellar, in-charge of the Energy and Resources industry at Deloitte Middle East stated that by taking the lead on this issue, oil and gas companies are in a position to create impact and could even set the ground for new human capital and talent management practices across the region.
There is a lot more going on in the technical sections, such as the future of 2D laser cutting and new approach to creating toolpaths for improved cutting. Also be sure to read the Africa Special Industry Focus as it tackles the mining sector in the region. Untapped reserves, increased exploration, investment and increasing confidence in African economies means that Africa represents good opportunities for mining activities in the medium to longer term.
2014 has been a remarkable year for most manufacturing companies in the Middle East & Africa, and has set the stage for what promises to be an amazing 2015. As the hectic holiday season winds down, take a moment to read our January E-zine issue.
